DNR CONTINUES WALLEYE STOCKING

CADILLAC – Lakes Cadillac and Mitchell have thousands and thousands of new residents.

About 81,000 new residents, to be error-free.

over the last week, the Michigan Department of Consistent Resources has stocked 81,000 walleye fingerlings into the two lakes.

The draft comes despite limits on fish stocking due to the essential fish disease Viral Herorrhagic Speticemia, or VHS.

“We didn’t boost any walleye last year,” said DNR Fisheries Biologist Correct Tonello. “This year we were expert to raise some. We can only use certain ponds because we don’t crave to risk spreading VHS.”

After stocking most of the purveying at DNR ponds in Grayling, Tonello said he made an pains to obtain the remaining fingerlings for stokcing in Lake Cadillac and Lake Mitchell.

Tonello said he recieved allowance to move forward on one condition: the fish must show adverse following a second test for VHS.

They did.

The eclipse cascade fingerlings were transported by the thousands over several days this one-time week. On Friday, DNR Fisheries Technician Mike Phillips dumped the last ends of fingerlings into the two lakes.

The total match up is 53,000 fingerlings for Lake Mitchell and 28,000 fingerlings for Lake Cadillac.

The 2008 achievement is part of the ongoing work to restore the lakes as prime fisheries for walleye. Tonello believes there’s been some good with previous plantings.

“I don’t intend it’s bee phenomenal, but some of the fish we’re stocking have survived,” Tonello said. “I recognize people that go out targeting them will catch them.”

Even though the fingerlings drew a corral of seagulls, Phillips said the flying predators shouldn’t play the part much of a risk to the 3.5 to 4-inch fingerlings.

“Walleye go true to the bottom and go deep,” he said.

In lieu of, the fingerlings will have to keep an eye out for fellow fish looking for a perceptive, easy meal before winter.

ELKS’ Debatable HOUSE SEEKS NEW MEMBERS

CADILLAC – The Elks Register of Cadillac has a 108-year history of kindly works in Cadillac.

The benevolent group is dedicated to dollop others. It is the second largest provider of college scholarships in the land, surpassed only by the U.S. government. The sisterhood sponsors activities for youth to base values, including drug awareness.

The Elks Chapter is a patriotic group, and each year members stay veterans at VA Medical Centers.

But they also admiration to have fun and enjoy fellowship with other members.

In Cadillac that means a hush-hush Club Room with a food and beverage water-closet.

When Randy Pecsek moved to Cadillac with his bride last year, the IT account manager needed a way to create friends.

“I wanted to get to know people in Cadillac,” he said. “My better half and I moved here to be closer to her grandmother and to daily help take care of her.”

That’s when an invitation from Elks’ fellow John Putvin introduced him to the syndicate.

“The gang here is outstanding,” he smiled. “There are many personalities and backgrounds. It’s like the old in the running for from “Cheers” - it’s a status where everybody knows your name.”

John Carlson joined the Elks when he was 21-years-old. Now he’s the Exulted Ruler and behind the race drive to recruit new members.

“I’m hoping that we will get people interested in joining us,” he said.

The Elks welcomes both men and women. The only membership requisite is U.S. citizenship. The group meets twice a month for Dwelling business and sponsors local kind and social events. Its fluency offers a restaurant, bar, and third floor Board room paneled in solid oak from the wood baron days.

The Elks’ membership likely gets you into any of the 2,200 lodges across the boonies with club rooms, a bar and food,” Carlson explained.

The non-profit classify donates proceeds from its social events to camps that lend services for handicapped children.

“It’s almost like affinity to a country club,” stated Pecsek. “But the other half is the gift and sercie component of what we do. it’s a zealous feeling to come here,” He said, looking around the Cosh Room. “You look around, and you recognize everybody.”

Distraction MILLAGE SEEKS MONEY FOR WEX, OTHER PROGRAMS

The Wexford County sport millage is being sought to provide funding for the Wexford County Civic Center and other programs.

The millage will be on the Nov. 4 ballot.
