2008 SEMA Show: Hummer Weekend Warrior, H3 X Concept, H3 Alpha

It appears rumors of Hummer's extinction have been greatly exaggerated, at least when it comes to this year's SEMA show. While GM's off-street brand faces being sold, turn off down, or possibly merged with Jeep, Hummer does truly have a pair of new vehicles at dealers in the materialize of a V-8-powered 2008 H3 Alpha and 2009 H3T company-cab pickup.

And now the General is showing them off a petty with a pair of special concepts at its SEMA bandstand, along with a third H3 built by our neighbors over at Four Wheeler journal.

New Hummer CEO James Taylor calls the discredit's concepts -- the Weekend Warrior and H3 X Concept -- "thinking starters for enthusiasts who want to clear themselves," as both primarily use factory accessories and aftermarket parts to show what can be done to the broken haulers with "a few weekends in the garage."

Based on a H3T Alpha, the Weekend Warrior concept includes several GM Doing parts that give its 5.3L, 300-hp V-8 an additional 70 hp, including LS2 cylinder heads, a higher-ameliorate camshaft, and a 3.5-in. exhaust system.

For beyond the shadow of a doubt Baja-worthy handling, the Weekend Warrior also receives several denial components including as Light Racing JounceShocks, lofty-performance brakes from DBA, and 35-in.-gigantic tires on special matte-resentful 20-in. wheels from Hummer's own supplementary catalog.

Of course, no SEMA showcar is ended without a major dose of bling, so the H3T Weekend Warrior also comes with dues Baja Orange Metallic cover, a body-color upper grille, and levy hood graphics.

In addition, the discredit grille, side mirrors, door handles, and stimulus door all sport a satin-metal consummate, and off-road lamps are mounted on the grille and roof.

Most of these upgrades are yardstick Hummer accessories; however, the black-leather-trimmed chalet with orange stitching and carbon-fiber whatsit panel accents are not.

Hummer describes the H3 X Concept as "a proposition for the ultimate H3 X," taking a standard H3 X Alpha and sprucing it up with unexcelled 18-in. wheels and 35-in.-lanky tires, black chrome write 'finis' to on its shiny bits (similar to the late Black Chrome Edition H2), and assemblage-color rear bumper extensions.

Basically, the H3 X Concept includes black leather span with orange stitching on the armrests and muu-muu knob, along with custom floormats and a Hummer additional headrest DVD entertainment system. Power remains unchanged, but the showcar sports Gully Metallic paint from PPG.

The third -- and definitive -- hauler to grace Hummer's SEMA champion is an H3 Alpha developed by the staff of Four Wheeler periodical, dubbed Project Trailhugger.

The Trailhugger (not to be at sixes with tree-hugger) is modified for increased off-passage capability while maintaining reasonable hearten and fuel-economy and features a raft of magisterial-core accessories, including nitrogen-charged Rod Theatre Racing piggyback reservoir-specimen performance shocks, flat-sooty GT Simulock 16-in. wheels, a distant perimeter lighting system, and a winch.

For a unmatched appearance, the Trailhugger is also "de-glossed," drift the H3's chrome trim is painted bog black and its paint modified with a rare flattening agent.

There's no doubt times are baffling for Hummer, as GM is struggling to find a buyer for the uncivilized brand.

And while GM's merger talks with Chrysler could potentially confound the division a lifeline, given the in circulation economic uncertainty, there's also a possibility that the latest Hummer concepts to bow at SEMA might also be the last.
