Justice, Texas-Style
Like everyone, there are things I like to antagonism. One of my favorites is the state of Texas...well, almost all of the majestic of Texas. They execute more prisoners, summarily flash more Mexicans (at the hand of Texas Rangers, circa 1900), stand for more air and water pollution, pray at more prominent high school football games, and end more bigots than any other state in the union.
Only this week, two stories broke in the tidings that reminded me, once again, of how much I hate Texas and Texans--
The first concerns a doubtless young lady--a McCain/Palin action worker, as the story goes--who claimed that she was assaulted, raped, and defaced by a tall, black man who was upset because she had a McCain/Palin bumper sticker on her car. Matt Drudge picked up the release first, followed by a few newspapers. Soon, the McCain run was demagogueing the story in an effort to assemble doubt in the minds of undecided voters as to who the Genuine OBAMA is. Then, the whole thing collapsed when the junior woman admitted that the entire scenario was made up. While the fictional event took home in Pittsburgh--another geographic location that seems to have its deal of bigots--the disturbed young "butt" was from...try to guess...Texas.
The second fright story comes from Paris, Texas, where racism has been institutionalized. There, in September, two snowy men returning from a beer run across the border into Oklahoma (Paris is obviously a place where sanctimoniousness about using juice is more valued than the life of a black man) drove their Dodge pickup over their wicked-skinned drinking buddy and dragged his firmness along the two-lane highway until body parts littered their wake.
One of the accused virtuous men had been previously found guilty of shooting another "patron" in the head three times while trying to keep away off "two black men" who were attempting to rob the two white guys in the (same?) dealings. The black would-be robbers were never located.
