OCEANSIDE ---- The Naval Tough Investigative Service and two other agencies are investigating the basis of the 4,000-acre Juliett fire ignited Monday on Settlement Pendleton, base officials said Thursday.
The scrutinize suggests that arson is suspected, but a Coterie Pendleton spokeswoman said she had no data about why a criminal investigation was opened. Arson is punishable under phase and federal law, as well as the Uniform Code of Military Law, which applies to members of the armed services.
The San Diego County Sheriff's Turn on and California Department of Forestry and Fire Haven are also investigating the Juliett fire, officials said. ...
The fire was the largest of at least three fires to give way out on base in a seven-day period.
On Oct. 8, a flare-up now being called the November fire burned 1,500 acres on the southern carve up of the base bordering Oceanside. That fire is also under review by the agencies reviewing the Juliett fire, Sea officials said Thursday. ...

A wildfire that damaged two homes and faked hundreds of Newport Beach residents to vacate their homes last week was most likely of one's own free will set, fire officials said Tuesday.
“We’re winsome certain it was set. Fire investigators are working with the boys in blue department,” Newport Beach Fire Marshal Steve Bunting said. “The space [where the fire started] was gated off and closed to the plain.”
About 3:20 p.m. Oct. 13, a fire started in Bonita Gill’s brush and quickly spread, thanks to gusty Santa Ana winds kicking up that day. ... The glow scorched 10 acres of turf and lightly damaged two homes. ...

At least two deaths are being blamed on wildfires. Thousands of L-A residents raced from two fires that imperil their San Fernando neighborhoods. ... Yolo County prosecutors Friday revealed key aspects of their victim against a volunteer firefighter accused of mounting wildfires in the rural Capay Valley.
Robert Eric Eason, 39, from the hamlet of Guinda, sat beside his solicitor in Yolo Superior Court as investigators with the California Be subject to of Forestry and Fire Protection testified about years of labour to catch the suspected serial arsonist. On ordinary nationwide, about 30 percent of arson fires are set by firefighters, Carlson testified.
Arsonists commonly go in areas close to home, where they are cognizant of with the landscape, he said. They use time-hesitate devices so they can be elsewhere and have alibis when fires start, he said.
"They see they have the odds on their side to light a fire and get away with it," Carlson said. ...
