2008 Paris Motor Show: Ford Focus RS

ford-focus-rs-paris-back.jpg

Wow.

THIS is what we need.

This hot hatchback is unfortunately only for yard sale in Europe (why the hell did Ford do that?), but tete- is that we will get it come 2010.

So until then, you can roll these thoughts around your perception: this is quite possible the hottest hatchback ever made. Ford confirms that the blessed Europeans will have a 2.5 liter 5 cylinder turbocharged apparatus to do their every whim. The engine produces an estimated 300 horsepower and 325 hammer-feet of torque. A reported 161 mph top hurry and a 0-60 mph time that will definitely hit town in less than 6 seconds makes the RS the fastest European Ford ever.

Unexpectedly, this car is front pivot drive. Usually performance cars use produce wheel drive, but what they hey, if Ford knows what they’re doing…

In turns out that you are wondering how Ford’s design in the twinkling of an eye became so much better, you have the “kinetic” lay out theme to thank. That is the term Ford has officially applied to many of its upcoming vehicles, and I must say, I like it. I can certainly see many people flocking to Ford dealerships for such cars like the Focus RS.

Except, of circuit, for the fact that Ford is NOT SELLING THEM in the U.S. Seriously, has Ford ever wondered why they’re not making banknotes here?

The legendary Ford RS performance car mark is back and faster than ever. The stunning new 2009 Focus RS is previewed at Paris, while maturity work has confirmed it as the fastest ever European Ford moulding car.

Ford is confirming performance target figures for Focus RS as 0-100km/h in under 6.0 seconds and a top sprint of 260 km/h or more.

However, for Team RS engineers, headed by Ford of Europe’s Carrier Line Director for Performance Vehicles, Jost Capito, this is only part of the story-line.

Said Capito: “We into the new Focus RS will change expectations of a front-wheel-get-up-and-go high performance car in the way it translates its power into care, driveability, traction and performance. It’s the fastest aggregate production car Ford has ever produced in Europe, yet it’s also a driveable and business-like car you can use every day. That’s a significant achievement in driving dynamics.”

The stimulating new Focus RS is being previewed at the 2008 Paris Motor Show, following a launch in London in July, before going on mark-down in early 2009.

Green is Go

Ford is also confirming that Focus RS customers will have three taint options from launch, including the vibrant, astute green metallic paint despatch following the preview vehicle’s bloody positive reception.

This colour was chosen as both a new interpretation of the 1970s Ford Le Mans Rural and a reflection of the livery worn by Ford’s Humanity Rally Championship Focus cars. To landmark the obvious links between the new Focus RS and the Focus RS WRC, plus, significantly, the plc’s global partnership and association with BP, the new face will be called ‘Ultimate Fresh’ for production.

Focus RS will also be available in Ford Show Blue and Frozen White, each with the realm of possibilities of blue or green colour matched hidden. A full black leather option will be convenient for all three exterior colours.

For performance car enthusiasts, the new car will pock a welcome return for the Ford RS badge. The new Focus RS will be the number two Focus model to carry the RS mantle and promises another charming chapter in an exciting 40-year Ford RS news that began in Germany in the late 1960s and gained thrust across Europe with the launch of the 1970 Leader RS1600.

Authentic RS presence and style

Before it even turns a whirl location, the new Focus RS exudes the presence, high-exhibit style and lowered, ‘meaner’ presence expected of a genuine Ford RS. Overt dispatch styling details mix with subtle revisions to sire a planted, powerful stance and the commitment of an exciting drive.

The Paris Show car previews the devise intent for a final production carrier, though as development work continues, some irrefutable details may change before production begins.

The hook new front bumper design for Focus RS incorporates a lost front airdam with a large, mesh drop grille and an extended trapezoid. The chic trapezoid represents the latest Ford kinetic lay out ‘face’ and is finished in towering gloss black.

Chromed xenon headlamps noticeable out like cat’s eyes, framed by wicked housings with unique mesh prototype feature running underneath. The frontal detail is finished with a high gloss scurvy strip at the leading edge of the bonnet and integrated fog lamps, set in knowledgeable housings.

Above, two classic-style bonnet louvres are both a styling advice at the power beneath and a practical stipulation, maintaining correct system temperatures.

Front and Nautical aft quarter panels have been revised to coalesce wider wheel arches and a wider path, complemented by revised, deeper side rocker mouldings. In another visual cue of the car’s performance potential, triangular, RS-badged vents sit behind the front spin arches. Even the side mirrors, with integrated side for repeaters, are finished in high show black.

At the rear, a deep new backside bumper incorporates a large venturi hole to its lower edge – also in sybaritic gloss black – with insignificant vents at each corner of the bumper, emphasizing the car’s compass. Two impressive chromed exhaust tailpipes sit each side of the venturi, creating a resolved rear view for the car.

Above, a unique, twin-shoot, black RS rear spoiler sits at the Focus RS’ roofline, echoing both RS models of the nearby and the World Rally-winning Focus WRC that has been its incitement.

“It’s vital that a Focus RS looks like both a Focus and an RS – it needs to be individual, individual and overt in its performance styling, genuine to the RS tradition, but it also needs to meet the contemporaneous desires of Focus customers and show a clear chain from and relationship to Focus ST,” said Stefan Lamm, Chief Face Designer, Ford of Europe.
High appearance interior
Inside, this theme continues with a unexcelled and appropriately performance-oriented centre, designed to appeal to customer tastes and footing genuine sports performance with a dedicated sense of style and quality.

The berth is dominated by bespoke Recaro record-performance sports seats, particularly designed and trimmed for excellent frame, even when driving enthusiastically. Each is colour-matched to the extrinsic, with ebony leather accents and ‘RS’ and ‘Recaro’ logos stitched into each backrest.

Elsewhere, slant brings new excitement to the Focus interior, structure on the sporty interior theme of Focus ST with more use of accents matched to the outside colour, brushed aluminium highlights and obvious performance styling. Even the rear seats are sculpted, with higher side bolsters and a microfibre destroy to echo those up front and create a four-seat channel.

The centre console is finished in a smart carbon-look trim and metallic highlights with teem, from air vents, door grab handles, switchgear and gearshift environs, to unique RS-branded scuff plates on the door sills. These highlights oppose with a black-trimmed roof lining, emphasising the trendy, cockpit feel.

The driver is reminded this is no unexceptional Focus at every touch, with a gear lever finished with a six haste gear shift graphic in RS smutty, a sporty, three-spoke steering site, finished with ‘Ford’ and ‘RS’ logos and even aluminium foot pedals. The play driving environment is completed by three additional gauges from the Focus ST, including turbo troubles, sitting atop the centre soothe and angled toward the driver’s eyeline.

Effective RS heart

At the heart of the all-new Focus RS is a specially developed, turbocharged story of the Duratec 2.5-litre, five-cylinder locomotive. Significantly revised for high behaviour, this powerplant is targeting an impressive power achieve of 300PS and 440Nm of torque, contributing to an fantastic power-to-weight ratio.

Such substantive increases are not simply the result of altering apparatus management or boost pressure: starting with the Duratec 2.5-litre exclude, Ford RS engineers developed unique camshafts, a revised cylinder headman and gasket and revised intake and miscellaneous system for the car.

In addition, specific measurements have been charmed to let the RS enthusiast enjoy a sound to fully counterpart the impressive performance of the Focus RS. A specially tuned ’well-constructed symposer’ transmits defined noises from the intake system to the commuter compartment, whilst the RS exhaust system contributes a very sporty and sonorous 5-cylinder turbo-be activated.
